• In 1900 L. Frank Baum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz was first published, along with Dorothy’s red shoes, the yellow brick road, we also associate the story with the Emerald City.
• Cleopatra was said to have loved emeralds and adorned her palace and jewellery collection with the stunning gems. She was so in love with these jewels she had her own emerald mines.
• Emeralds are typically linked and worn by the rich and famous, often seen in films, on the red carpet and sold at auction for a high price. At the 2018 Golden Globe Awards famous faces stepped out wearing black and green emeralds as a sign of justice and harmony.
• During the 1960’s Richard Burton famously gave Elizabeth Taylor a suite of emerald and diamond jewellery following a trip to the Bulgari boutique in Rome. The suite consisted of a necklace, pendant, earrings, ring and bracelet and was sold at auction for an estimated $23 million. Now that really does make you green with envy.
